Barend Blom
Principal
M.S.Ed. (University of Miami)
Barend came to Renew School in 2022. The majority of his teaching career has been in Christian schools in New Zealand and international Christian schools affiliated with the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) since 1999. He has taught Bible, Science and Maths, and he has always been interested in teaching and learning from a Christian worldview perspective. Previous experience include being Principal, Technology Activator, e-Learning Coordinator, Head of Department for Science and Mathematics, and High School Science and Maths Teacher. His wife, Annami, is also a registered teacher with a specialisation in Visual Art Education. They have two children, both students at Renew School.
Bruce Alison
Associate Principal: Secondary

Bruce is passionate about seeing the students of Renew School thrive both academically and personally. Stepping into the role of Associate Principal Secondary, Bruce draws upon years of experience across all facets of school life. Having served as a HOD of PE and Senior Dean, he understands the importance of physical well-being and character development alongside academic success. His leadership is informed by a broad understanding of school operations, gained through roles as a Property Liaison and Staff Representative on the Board of Trustees. At the core of Bruce’s practice is a love for coaching, mentoring, and teaching, ensuring that every student feels supported on their journey. Bruce is married to Anna, and both his daughters attend Renew School.
Timothy Buchanan
Associate Principal: Primary
Dip Ministry (Hillsong International Leadership College)
M.Ed. (Bethlehem Tertiary Institute)
Tim has been on the teaching staff of Renew School since 2007. A former student of the school, he has a passion for every student’s well-being and to see every student reach their potential. He particularly enjoys teaching literacy and performing arts, organising and producing school productions. Tim and wife Nina have three daughters, two of whom are students at Renew School.
